Who We Are
Dan Mathis, Founder,
Dan Mathis is the visionary behind Main Street Homecoming, a heartfelt tribute to the rich legacy and enduring spirit of West Tampa. A proud son of the neighborhood, Dan’s deep roots and lifelong memories inspired him to create a space where generations could reconnect, celebrate, and honor the businesses, clubs, and families that made Main Street a cultural landmark. From the roar of his father’s race car up and down Rome Avenue to the countless moments shared in iconic local spots, Dan’s love for West Tampa shines through every detail of this event. His leadership continues to unite a community around its shared history and vibrant future.
Wanda V. Mays, Co-Founder
Wanda V. Mays is a dedicated community leader, educator, and organizational strategist whose passion for preserving cultural heritage and empowering communities led her to co-found Main Street Homecoming. A lifelong advocate for equity and connection, Wanda brings over 30 years of experience in education, nonprofit development, and grant writing to this initiative. As Lead Organizer, she ensures every detail of the Homecoming reflects the pride, legacy, and love woven through West Tampa’s history. With deep family ties and a vision rooted in community uplift, Wanda is committed to honoring the past while building bridges to the future—one story, one celebration, one homecoming at a time.
